What Are the Advantages of a U-Shaped Dump Truck?

1. Cleaner Unloading

The reduced weight allows for more thorough unloading. The U-shaped body has no blind spots at the corners, so cargo is less likely to stick to the sides during unloading, resulting in a cleaner unloading process.

Traditionally, the cargo bodies of standard dump trucks were reinforced with thicker steel to enhance strength. In contrast, U-shaped cargo bodies achieve weight reduction through structural optimization. Today’s most common U-shaped dump trucks utilize high-strength or wear-resistant steel plates. While maintaining the body’s structural integrity, the plate thickness is reduced by approximately 20%, resulting in a weight reduction of about 1 ton. This effectively improves the load-carrying capacity utilization ratio.

3. High Load-Carrying Capacity

Constructed from high-strength steel plates or wear-resistant plates, these bodies feature high yield strength and superior impact and fatigue resistance. For users transporting ore, this helps minimize damage to the cargo box caused by ore particles.

5. Extend Tire Life

U-shaped cargo boxes keep the load centered, distributing the load more evenly across both tires, which helps extend tire life.

So why haven’t U-shaped cargo boxes gained widespread adoption in China?

1. High manufacturing requirements and higher production costs

U-shaped cargo boxes require a single-step molding process, which demands greater investment from manufacturers in terms of production costs. Since U-shaped cargo boxes have not yet gained widespread market acceptance, many manufacturers are reluctant to proactively invest in such equipment.

1、制造工艺要求高,需要更多成本投入

U型货箱需要一次成型,在制造成本上需要厂家投入更多。U型货箱还没有被市场广泛认可的情况下,很多厂家也不愿意主动投入这样的设备。

2. Due to cost considerations, ordinary users are reluctant to accept them

Rising manufacturing costs have led to higher retail prices, making it more difficult for ordinary users to accept them.

3. Lower cargo capacity

U-shaped cargo boxes have a smaller cross-sectional area, resulting in lower cargo capacity. Based on calculations for a 5.6-meter cargo box, a U-shaped box holds approximately 0.5 cubic meters less than a grid-pattern box. However, since many grid-pattern boxes now feature internal angled designs, and U-shaped boxes have a lower center of gravity, this difference is not particularly noticeable.

2、价格原因,普通用户不愿意接受

制造成本的升高也带来了销售价格的提高,普通用户在接受起来也会更加困难。

3、装载量小

U型货箱的截面积会小一些,在装载量上会少一些,按5.6米的货箱装载量测算U型车箱比田字格车箱少0.5个立方左右。不过因为现在很多田字格方箱内部也有斜角设计,再加上U型货箱重心更低,这个差别并不明显。

4. Difficulty in Calculating Volume

Furthermore, U-shaped cross-sections are less convenient than square boxes when calculating volume. Since freight charges for transporting sand or soil are often based on the volume of earth moved, this presents a certain degree of inconvenience.

5. Overloading Is the Biggest Obstacle to Adoption

Given that overloading was virtually the norm in the domestic transport market, users believed that the more they hauled, the more they earned. The load capacity of a vehicle became a key criterion for users when selecting a truck, making the heavy, grid-patterned square body the most popular option on the market due to its excellent load-bearing capacity and impact resistance.

If overloading is avoided, the U-shaped body leverages its lightweight advantage to carry more cargo and improve economic efficiency. The selling point of U-shaped dump trucks lies in their lightweight design; by using high-strength steel plates, they weigh 1 ton less than those made with ordinary steel plates.

With increasingly strict regulations on truck overloading, the weight advantage of U-shaped cargo boxes is becoming increasingly evident. As the domestic truck market matures, U-shaped cargo boxes are emerging as a trend, and we will see more of these dump trucks traversing the vast landscapes of China.

4、统计立方不方便

而且U型截面在计算体积时不如方箱方便,很多拉沙或者土的是按照所拉的土方体积来计算运费,这也带来了一定的不便。

5、超载是影响推广的最大原因

由于原来国内运输市场的整体环境是几乎没有不超载的,对于用户来说,拉得越多,才会挣得越多。一辆车能拉多少成为了用户选择车辆的一个重要标准,厚重的田字格方箱也就是市场上最受欢迎的货箱了,它的承载能力以及抗冲击力都很好。

如果不超载,U型货箱发挥自重轻的优势,能够多装载货物,提高经济效益,U型自卸产品的卖点定在轻量化,采用高强钢板后重量比普通钢板要轻1吨。

对于目前自卸车超载的治理越来越严格,U型货箱在自重方面的优势得以体现。国内的卡车市场逐渐成熟,U型货箱成为一种趋势,我们会看到更多这一类型的自卸车驰骋在中国大地上。
