
With increasingly stringent national energy conservation and environmental protection requirements, as well as the urgent need for national energy development strategies, vehicle lightweighting is increasingly becoming a key approach to alleviating energy pressures and promoting green development, and lightweighting in commercial vehicles holds even greater significance. Although commercial vehicles currently account for only 20–25% of the total vehicle fleet, they consume more than half of the total fuel used by all vehicles. Furthermore, compared to their counterparts abroad, Chinese commercial vehicles generally have higher curb weights, resulting in high fuel consumption, high CO₂ emissions, low load factors, and high logistics costs for operating companies. Data analysis indicates that a 10% reduction in the curb weight of commercial vehicles can lower fuel consumption by 4.8% when empty, and when fully loaded, the same fuel consumption can transport an additional 10% of cargo weight. Therefore, the lightweighting of China’s commercial vehicles is of great significance for reducing energy consumption, lowering logistics costs in the manufacturing sector, and promoting green, high-quality development.
随着国家节能环保要求的日益提高以及国家能源发展战略的迫切需要,汽车轻量化越来越成为缓解能源压力、推动绿色发展的重要途径,而商用车的轻量化则具有更加重要的意义。尽管目前商用车保有量仅占汽车总保有量的 20-25%,但其油耗却占到了汽车总油耗的一半以上,而且与国外相比,中国商用车自重普遍较高,造成了油耗高、CO2排放大、负载率低、用车企业物流成本高。数据分析表明,如果商用车整备质量减少 10%,则空载油耗可降低 4.8%,满载相同油耗下可多运输 10%整备质量的货物。因此,中国商用车的轻量化对于降低能源消耗、降低制造业物流成本、推进绿色高质量发展具有重要意义。

Since August 2016, following the promulgation and implementation of the mandatory national standard “Limits on External Dimensions, Axle Loads, and Mass of Motor Vehicles, Trailers, and Motor Vehicle Trains” (GB 1589), commercial vehicle manufacturers and logistics companies have expressed an increasingly urgent need for vehicle lightweighting. Major steel companies and commercial vehicle manufacturers are all conducting research on lightweighting technologies to identify effective solutions. Against this backdrop, convening a seminar on commercial vehicle lightweighting technology to jointly discuss economical and feasible solutions will effectively promote the development of commercial vehicle lightweighting technology, while creating greater value for steel companies, commercial vehicle manufacturers, and logistics enterprises.

Whether trailer-mounted or self-propelled, the manufacturing processes for U-shaped dump trucks are consistent worldwide. As China’s specialized vehicle manufacturing industry has undergone transformation and upgrading, these truck bodies have transitioned from standard steel to NM450 wear-resistant steel plates, significantly increasing the vehicle’s overall load-carrying capacity. This allows for a greater payload on each trip and reduces fuel consumption during empty runs. The removal of side reinforcements has also reduced aerodynamic drag, further lowering fuel consumption.
