A telescopic boom is a type of working attachment mounted on an excavator. It consists of a fixed section and a movable section; the movable section extends and retracts via telescopic cylinders, thereby achieving a greater digging radius and an optimal loading height. This type of working attachment is known as a telescopic boom.

伸缩臂是装在挖掘机上的一种工作装置，它是由固定体与移动体通过伸缩缸的作用使移动体伸出及缩回，从而达到更大的挖掘半径和合理的装车高度，这种形式的工作装置叫作伸缩手臂。

A telescopic boom, also known as a barrel boom, features a fixed first section and multiple movable sections. All movable sections are housed within the fixed section. The mechanism operates by extending or retracting the boom through a series of hydraulic cylinders, with each movable section connected to the next (e.g., the second section connects to the third, and so on). There is always one fixed section and two or more movable sections; the number of hydraulic cylinders is equal to the total number of movable sections minus one. This type of telescopic boom offers a larger working radius but features a more complex structure and higher production costs. It is typically designed with three or more sections and is commonly used on excavators for deep pit or high-altitude operations.

Features of the telescopic boom:

1. Long effective working reach and high working height. The telescopic boom structure allows for reaching distant targets, while the boom’s swing capability enables high working heights—capabilities unmatched by traditional excavators.

2. Capable of directly loading and unloading cargo while clearing certain obstacles. The telescopic boom allows for loading and unloading operations over small ditches, steps, and door or window openings; due to its negative swing angle, it can also perform tasks such as ditch cleaning, repair, and leveling on the ground surface, making it particularly suitable for use in off-road conditions.

3. Superior operational safety. Telescopic-arm excavators feature load-retracting capabilities. When performing stacking operations on uneven terrain, the machine can be parked at a distance from the stacking point, the stabilizing outriggers deployed, and the loading and unloading of goods completed using telescoping and swing movements. This also facilitates furnace cleaning and dismantling operations in steel mills.

4. Easy attachment of various implements, expanding the scope of operations.

套入式伸缩臂又称桶臂，其结构是第一段为固定体，其余的都是移动体，所有的移动体都装在固定体内，其原理是一段接二段、二段接三段......再通过行程油缸来使其伸出或缩回的形式，只有一个固定体，二个或以上个移动体，行程油缸条数是所有的移动体减去一。这种形式的伸缩臂有更大的作业半径，但其结构较复杂、生产成本较高，一般都可以设计成三段以上，一般用在深坑或高空作业的挖掘机上。

伸缩臂的特点：

1、有效作业距离大，作业高度高。通过伸缩臂结构可以达到目的较远的距离，通过臂的变幅可以达到较高 的作业高度，这是传统挖掘机不能比拟的。

2、能越过部分障碍直接装卸货物。采用伸缩臂装置可以跨越小沟，台阶，门窗孔进行装卸作业；由于具有负的变幅角度，也可对停机面的沟渠进行了清沟或修破，平整等作业，因而更加适合在野外条件下使用。

3、具有较好的作业安全性能。伸缩臂挖掘机具有负载伸缩功能，在不平路面进行堆高作业时，可在远离堆垛点的位置停车，打开稳定支腿，运用伸缩，变幅动作完成对货物的装卸作业；在炼钢车间进行炉膛的清理拆卸作业也很方便。

4、易更换多种属具，扩大作业范围。
